Scorpio is the fixed water sign of the zodiac, traditionally ruled by Mars, covering birthdays roughly Oct 23 – Nov 21. The trait underneath every other Scorpio trait is depth of attention: Scorpio doesn’t skim. The Mars rulership shows up as nerve. Scorpio can sit in a room where something ugly is being avoided and say the sentence nobody wants to say. Crises are where the sign is strangely comfortable: hospital corridors, hard conversations, the phone call at 2am, the family secret everyone’s been walking around for twenty years. Ordinary weather takes more out of a Scorpio than an emergency does.

There’s real resourcefulness in there too. Perceptiveness overclocked becomes suspicion. Scorpio picks up a real signal - a flatness in someone’s voice, a delay in a reply - and then builds a whole architecture on top of it, usually the least generous one available. The perception was accurate. The story wasn’t.

The privacy becomes a wall. Scorpio will listen to everything you have and volunteer nothing, then feel unknown, and there’s a genuine unfairness in that which is nobody’s fault but the sign’s own. Being hard to reach is not the same as being betrayed, though it can feel identical from the inside.

Fixed water holds grudges the way it holds everything else: completely, and for a long time. When Scorpio decides a person is finished, the door doesn’t just close, it stops having been a door. Then there’s control. Scorpio hates being at the mercy of anyone, so it manages information, manages access, tests people.
